We managed to visit a few beaches on last weekend. What do I think about the changes? Well, frankly speaking, the whole project is still under construction. A few months later, this place is going to turn to become another huge shopping complex. It will be fulled of sky-high buildings and rows of shop houses. I am not sure how many tourists from overseas would like to spend their time or spending money at this seaside shopping centre. Only Asians love to spend their holidays in the air-conditioned building. Most Westerner would prefer sunbathing at the shore.
The state government has done sand dredged at various point of Melaka seasides. When I saw the geographical changes and the pollution of sea water, I was asking myself: Is Melaka short of land? Is that necessary? I remember I used to sit in a Malay restaurant besides Klebang beach at night, enjoying the breeze and the sound of waves that hit on the concrete offshore. But now, due to the expanded land, the restaurant is about 1km away from the sea now!
I hope the project will bring in new avenue to Melaka later. I also hope the state government will take seriously about the waste dumping system, especially when more and more people start moving into these areas.
Melaka is such a wonderful place, most histories happened here. The state government should start thinking about reserving the historical building rather than building more artificial stuff to boost the tourism industry of this place.
